In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was writing the letter

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.

Evaluate text

I can apply a set of criteria to evaluate how successfully the author has achieved their purpose in a range of different text types.

• Select 6 different texts from slides 7 and 8 of the modelling book.
• Make sure that you read a variety from the 3 main text types ( Persuasive, Informative and Entertaining)
• Evaluate each text, filling out the table below to show your thinking.
• See the modelling book for info on these criteria.

Text and Author’s purpose.	Criteria 1 Readability	Criteria 2 Accuracy	Criteria 3 Relevance	Criteria 4 Quality of information/ Language	Overall how well has the author achieved their purpose.
Example The three little pigs. The purpose of this text is to entertain the reader.	The story was easy to read and simple to understand. The pictures were bright and colourful and added value to the story. They backed up what was written in the story. The words were simple and easy. The rhyming parts helpe the story to flow	As this was narrative text it is accuracy of information is not important. The story was the same as Three Little Pig stories I have read before however.	The content of the story was relevant to purpose.	There was plenty of detail in the story to help me get a good image in my mind of what was going on. Clever use was made of repetition and rhyme.	Overall…..I think the author met their purpose of entertaining the reader very well. I would recommend that others read this story.
Watch more television The purpose is to persuade	The story is easy to read because the texts size is good and it doesnt have different color	The pictures  fit the purpose of the texts the author favour that we should watch more tv	The texts is appropriate to the texts and the texts supports the purpose the author  is trying to  achieve	The language  supports what the author is trying to achieve and there is lots  detail	Overall….. I think that the author met the purpose he was trying to achieve language
Libraries 'have had their day', the purpose is to to persuade	The story is easy to read because it is just in black and the writing is good size	The pictures don't fit the purpose because they are talking about a library	The texts is appropriate for the texts and supports the purpose the author is trying to achieve	The language supports the purpose what the author is trying to say	Overall….. I think that the author met the purpose talking about the library to achieve accuracy
Time for a camper vanishing act. Please. The purpose is to persuade	The story is easy to read because the size is good and the writing is black	The pictures fit the purpose because they talk about a van and there is a van in the texts	The story is relevant to the purpose	There is plenty of detail to understand what's is happening	Overall….. The author has met the purpose of persuade to achieve readability
L4 May 2015 The Promise Pg 22-27 entertain	The story is easy to read the sie is good and the font colour is good that it is black	The picture look like what i think of when i read it so i think it fits the purpose	The text is appropriate and the author has achieved what he wants to achieve	There is a lot of detail in the texts to understand and supports the author's purpose	Overall….. I think that the author has achieved to entertain me and he has achieved  relevance
L4 May 2016 MeMe and Me Pg 10-15 entertain	This texts is easy to read with good size texts	The picture fit the purpose of the texts	The story is appropriate and the author has achieved the purpose	There is lots of detail so i can understand	Overall….. I think the author met purpose to entertain to achieve accuracy
Underground Explorers L4 May 2015 Pg 2-13 inform	The texts size is great so i can read the texts	All the pictures in the texts make it fit the purpose	The author has achieved his purpose and the story is appropriate	There is lots of detail to now what the book is about	Overall…..
